Second
Quarterly Meeting of the Society
May 23rd,
2006
|
Location:
Bridgewood Resort Hotel
1000 Cameron Way
Neenah, WI 54956
Our quarterly meeting began with a “meet
and greet” and welcome to attendees. This was followed by an hors d’oeurve
buffet, business item review, and speaker presentation.
There were only two committee updates. Michelle announced that the Education
Committee has recruited a new member from Trustmark and Shannon relayed that our
Society is in the black financially. Our current membership stands at 34.
Paul Williams, President of Think for a Change, LLC was our keynote speaker. The
title of his presentation was Creative Problem Solving – Harvesting Ideas with
Creative Thought.” Paul’s company helps organizations and individuals develop
the thinking skills necessary to be effective, competitive, and relevant in the
current and future economy. In addition, he helps them pin down problems,
recognize opportunities, and produce innovative new products and services
demanded by an increasingly competitive marketplace.
Paul’s premise was that you and everyone around you is creative, and that it is
important to regularly utilize a multitude of idea-generation techniques.
Creativity in business is vital in order to beat your competition to market,
boost employee morale, create a feeling of team ownership in the big picture,
increase customer confidence, and positively impact your bottom line. We must
improve our own creativity, tap into each other’s creativity, and seek out
creativity anywhere and everywhere. For further information, we can visit Paul’s
website at http://www.thinkforachange.com.
Our next quarterly meeting will be in September. Suggestions for future keynote
presentations included estate planning and financial management.
Northwestern Mutual Life will sponsor a meeting during the first or second
quarter of 2007. They will also provide a keynote speaker for the meeting they
sponsor.
Our annual meeting will be scheduled for either October or November. We need to
start thinking about a location and speaker for that event, as well as nominees
for the election of new officers, and recognition of new LOMA designees. Please
send the names of any new LOMA designees to Mark.
We are in the running for the Special Achievement Award for the speed with which
we organized our Society. The winner will be announced in July. We need to start
thinking about which award we want to apply for next year.
Carilyn is researching the possibility of either having one or our meetings at
Miller Park coupled with watching a Brewers’ game or simply attending a Brewers’
game as a social event.

First quarterly
meeting of the Society
February 22nd,
2006
|
Location:
Ramada Plaza Hotel
Fond Du Lac, WI
The program included dinner, a business
meeting and an interesting and informative speech by Wisconsin State
Representative Phil Montgomery. Rep. Montgomery is the current chair of
the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities and a former chair of the
insurance committee. His presentation included a variety of topics, including
state politics, government organization, and the budget process. Members also
learned some of the reasons why it is important to be alert to state government
actions and to make contact with elected representatives. According to Rep.
Montgomery, introducing yourself and offering your experience and expertise in
your field is a good way to establish a relationship for the future. An
informative question and answer session brought questions on energy, education,
budgets and a wide range of other issues.
The business meeting included a discussion of other possible events and plans
for the coming year. In addition to our quarterly meetings, social events and a
possible golf tournament were suggested.

Inaugural
meeting of the Society
November 3rd,
2005
|
Location:
SC Grand
Green Bay, WI
The first meeting of the LOMA
Society of Greater Wisconsin took place on November 3, 2005 in Green Bay,
Wisconsin. Attendees from Wisconsin and Northern Illinois met to lay the
foundation for the new organization. The evening included a guest speaker,
introduction of newly designated FLMI conferees, ratification of the Society
bylaws, and the election of officers.
There was time to meet other insurance professionals as we gathered at the SC
Grand for dinner and an evening of learning, discussing insurance issues, and
planning for the Society's future. A large number of attendees were from
northeastern Wisconsin, but we had attendees from Milwaukee and even as far as
Lake Forest and Naperville, Illinois.
Our guest speaker was Steve DeRaleau, President of the Individual and Small
Group Division of PacifiCare Health Systems. He engaged the attendees in a
discussion of all the ways we learn and gain experience. He shared with us some
of his experience and ideas and asked the audience to list theoretical and
experiential ways we learn. The attendees were very cooperative and after a
lively session of brainstorming we ended up with quite a list.
During the business portion of the meeting officers were elected for 2006. The
officers are:
President: Mark Lampereur
Vice President: Brenda Winney
Secretary: Rebecca Freeman
Treasurer: Shannon Schuster
Society Committee
Representative:
Marie Lough
Committee Chair, Nominating Committee: Dawn Jadin
Committee Chair, Membership
Committee: Carilyn Carlson
Committee Chair, Education
Committee: Michelle Simonson
Committee Chair, Program
Committee: Kathee VanDrasek
Jena Kennedy, Assistant Vice President of LOMA Business Development, formally
installed the elected officers and then recognized the 2005 LOMA designees.
The 2005 LOMA designees in attendance were:
Sean Garrison - Operations Analyst (American Medical Security)
Tina Jepsen - Underwriter (Northwestern Mutual Life)
Tim Madden - Underwriter (American Medical Security)
Michelle Simonson - Operations Analyst II (American Medical Security)
Sharon Schoen - Executive Benefit Adjuster (Trustmark Insurance)
Future plans are already underway for the Society's activities. Our inaugural
meeting was held in Green Bay, but we hope to hold future meetings at locations
throughout the state. The Society looks forward to its rapid growth in 2006, and
the attendees at the meeting had a high level of enthusiasm for the
opportunities provided by the Society.
